After years of neglect, good old-fashioned stationery is enjoying a sort of resurgence lately. It is not that people reject the internet: on the contrary, the pace at which paper-based communication is transferred online until now is increasing, not slowing down. No, the renewed interest in paper is in fact due to this transition, and this can be seen in the case of company papers and documents, for example.
How is that?
This is a classic fragment of reverse psychology, because the less paper correspondence we receive, the more value we attach to it. Anyone getting a postcard or – even less often – a letter today is more reluctant than ever to throw it away. The same process has also taken place in business life. Sending a letter to clients or partners has become a less frequent event, but as a consequence more important, fortunately the offers help to achieve this.
This means that the design of stationery has become more visible than ever as you can expect written correspondence to be handled like never before, when it was part of an annoying flood, and when everything from order forms and invoices to product specifications and contracts needs to be handled. was to be sent back and forth by mail. That’s why we go back to where we left this time last year, and present a series of design approaches that have caught our attention and show where it is going in 2021.
By the same token, designing stationery is now a concept much broader than it has ever been before: it is part of a corporate design that covers every aspect of corporate communication, from employee email signatures and Twitter and Facebook headers to business. cards and branded pencils. Some of our favorite works for 2021 make virtue out of necessity and work with simple geometric forms and colors that can be easily applied to letterhead as much as possible, even in applications.
Another design language that is positively suitable for use in a variety of spaces and devices is classic, modern design – such styles are based on the simplicity of black and white, just like a number of other fashionable styles. These are perfect examples of clean, striking stationery that will impress with its understated style. This approach to corporate documentation and everything related to it perfectly shows how much a clever design concept applied rigorously to all elements can achieve in terms of the brand.
Nevertheless, the color is not without its justification: 2021 definitely promises to be a year of strong shades rather than pastel shades, especially orange. Take a look at the fresh, eye-catching paper, cards, and other designed themes seen in modern design to see just how well strong corporate color can work if enabled in stationery.
After all, designing stationery is not – and should never – be done in a vacuum: strong colors should be used where they are part of a company’s corporate identity, but should not be used for themselves.
